Policies and Procedures
Policies and procedures are essential for maintaining clear communication and expectations between staff and clients. They provide a reference point for all parties involved, ensuring fairness, transparency, and accountability.
Policy and Consent
Quality of Care
Treatment is chosen with intention to provide you with the most effective and useful treatment as possible to ensure the most beneficial use of our time. We commit to being on time, fully focused on you and will contact you promptly if ever needing to cancel an appointment.
Confidentiality
What we discuss in session is personal and confidential. All information will only be released with your consent unless it falls under “duty to report”. Duty to reports refers to situations where:
- the care provider believes that there is immediate risk or injury to yourself or to someone else.
-If a child under the age of 18 may be at current risk for abuse or neglect
-if the care provider believes that any health care professional has sexually abused or been sexually inappropriate with a client,
-where your care provider believes an elderly person is at risk for abuse or neglect;
-if subpoenaed or required by law
Then information may be released without your consent, however, it is believed that best practice is transparent, a conversation about this will always be had with you first when possible.
Dedication and homework
Therapy requires looking at issues that are not always easy to look at. Progress is made when a client is ready and committed to making changes in their life. Homework will be decided on by both the client and the therapist based on a mutual decision for the best fit for the client. Please make sure to make time, you are a priority and therefore this makes the homework very important. It is not fair to say that therapy is not helpful if a best effort is not put forward. What you put into it, you get out of it.
Cancellations & rebooking
Booking an appointment means that you are holding that time slot and that another client cannot book it, also that the therapist must be available to you at this time. Cancelling or rebooking of a session must be done no less than 24 hours ahead of your scheduled appointment time. A cancellation in less than 24 hours’ notice will result in a $50.00 cancelation fee. This is in place to protect the time of all clients and the therapist. Arriving more than 15 minutes late to an appointment may result in the automatic cancellation of the appointment. Please do your best to alert us of a late arrival so that this can be accommodated if possible. Although often accommodation can be made, if there is ability to do so, it is not always guaranteed that this will be an option. Once a service has been booked and paid for, it is your duty to arrive to sessions on time. There is no compensation for missing a group session. Group sessions will proceed at scheduled time for allotted duration. If an emergency, illness or event takes place where the clinician must cancel, that session will be rescheduled by the clinician.
Termination of Therapy
If for any reason you wish to terminate therapy, you have the right to withdraw at any time. It may be a good idea to discuss this option with your therapist before the decision is made for a few reasons: closure of the file, addressing any concerns regarding your best interest, other recommendations or resources can be offered to you if appropriate and common courtesy to your therapist and others that may be waiting for services. A personal ask is that you have consideration for your therapist’s worry about your wellbeing, please let it be known if you wish to end services.
Crisis Services
This service in not a crisis service. Your therapist may not be available for numerous reasons and the expectation that a therapist is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week is unrealistic. For this reason. If you find yourself in a crisis, we ask that you please call your family physician or go to the closest emergency department. The Mental Health Crisis Line telephone line is available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. The number is listed here for your convenience: 1-888-893-8333.
Acknowledgement
I have had the opportunity to ask questions about this agreement and understand and agree with the content I have read: this will be acknowledged when service is booked and policy box is clicked at checkout.
Thank you for your understanding and respect for the policies and procedures listed here. Our staff will not tolerate abusive language, badgering or threats. If such an occurrence should take place, it is at our staffs discretion to continue or terminate services.
